Design Guide

Make sure your design file is perfect before placing your order. We’ve outlined the most important things below.

Backdrops & Stage Design

1. Document Settings (mandatory)
Always work in 1:10 scale
Example:
Final size 400 × 300 cm → your artboard should be 40 × 30 cm
Resolution: 1000 dpi
This equals approx. 100 dpi at full size and is optimal for sublimation printing.
Safety Margin (safe area)
Keep all important elements (logo, text, symbols) 5–20 mm from the edge in 1:10 scale.
→ In real size, this corresponds to 5–20 cm, necessary because fabric stretches during installation.

2. Fonts & Text
All fonts must be converted to outlines/paths. This is an absolute requirement.
In Illustrator: Type → Create Outlines. Other programs: convert to curves or rasterize.
No editable text may remain in the file, as it may be replaced or corrupted during prepress.
Recommendations:
Avoid thin lines
Use clear, robust typefaces

3. Color Settings
CMYK, 8-bit
Always create your file in CMYK — not RGB.
No embedded ICC profiles
Files with profiles will be rejected or automatically converted, which may alter the colors.
Black Color
Use C 100% M 100% Y 100% K 100% for black backgrounds.
All backdrops and stage décor are printed on white fabric — use this mix for maximum deep black.
Pantone
PMS colors are never reproduced 100% accurately in sublimation.
Always use CMYK values for best results.

4. Design Recommendations for Best Results
– Use large, clear elements rather than complex details.
– Avoid small thin lines and ultra-thin typography.
– Dark, clean backgrounds work very well on polyester fabric.
– Avoid borders close to the edge — they may look uneven when fabric is stretched.
– Place the band logo in the upper 2/3 of your backdrop. If centered, it may be blocked by the drum kit, etc.

5. File Formats (what we accept for print)
PDF (for Illustrator, InDesign etc.)
Save as PDF 1.3–1.6
All fonts must be outlines
No crop marks, color bars, profiles or extra markings
No unflattened transparency

TIFF (for Photoshop)
Flattened (no layers)
LZW compression
No embedded color profile

NOTE: We do not accept working files such as .ai, .psd, .indd, .cdr, etc.

Kickdrum print

1. Open the template in Illustrator
Always start in Illustrator since the cut contour layer is located there.
The template includes:
Document size = 1" larger than the final size
1" bleed
A complete CutContour layer (spot color 100% magenta)
You should not change anything in the template.

2. If you design directly in Illustrator
Work in the template at 1:1 scale
If a black background is desired, create a black color box using C:100% M:100% Y:100% K:100%
Export to PDF following the instructions below
Done.

3. If you design in Photoshop
Step 1 – Create the document
Create your design at final size + 1" extra
(example: if you need 22" → create a 23" document, 1:1 scale)
Resolution: 300 dpi
Color mode: CMYK
No color profile

Step 2 – Save your file
Merge all layers → Flatten Image
Save as TIFF (.tiff)
Compression: LZW
No color profile
This gives you a perfect print file that Illustrator can place without issues.

4. Place your Photoshop design into the Illustrator template
Open the template in Illustrator
Go to File → Place
Select your saved .tiff
Make sure it is placed behind the cut contour circle

5. Export the final file
File → Save As → PDF (1.6 or higher) & “Press Quality”

Textile & Merchandise

We use DTF (Direct-To-Film) printing for all textile products.
This allows for unlimited colors and delivers soft, vibrant, and long-lasting prints.

File format:

  • Deliver your design asvPNG (if you create it in Photoshop) or PDF (if you create it in Illustrator) with a transparent background.
  • Use300 dpi at the actual size the print will be produced (applies to Photoshop designs).
No resolution is required in Illustrator since you are working with vector graphics.
  • Color mode: RGB (DTF usually works best with RGB profiles)

Size

  • Create the file at the exact print size
  • Do not scale up images afterwards – work at the correct size from the start

Transparent Background:

  • Everything that shouldn’t be printed must be transparent
  • Do not include white backgrounds unless they are part of the design

Edge Smoothing & Detail:

  • Avoid lines thinner than 0.3 mm – they may not print clearly
  • Small details and fine cuts can be hard to reproduce accurately on fabric

Colors & Effects:

  • Avoid gradients, shadows, and transparency based on raster effects – they may yield unpredictable DTF results
  • Flatten all effects before saving the final file

Text & Fonts:

  • Convert all text to outlines before saving to avoid font issues

Final File Check:

  • Zoom in to 100% to ensure sharpness
  • Check for unwanted backgrounds or artifacts
